How to Be a Dog

Shiva and I were at the dog park several weeks ago, playing that combination game of fetch/keep-away that you always play when your dog is half-grown and too goofy to play more serious games. I would talk him into dropping the toy (in this case a thick rope tied in a loop with bits of tennis ball clinging to it) and I'd reward him for his cooperation by flinging it as far and as hard as I could so that he could chase it. Then we'd do it again. Fun! Fun! Fun until it got stuck in some tree branches, anyway, where it remained for some time.
